Using the AngelSounds Fetal Doppler at Home: Simply put the probe of the device against your belly, put on the headphones, and turn it on. You may have to move the probe around a bit to locate the heartbeat. Using ultrasound gel is not required, but it may help with the acquisition and clarity of the signal. Alternatives to ultrasound gel include stretch mark cream, belly oil, even body wash that has a gel-like consistency. Keep in mind that although the AngelSounds Fetal Doppler has an ultra-sensitive probe, it’s been specially designed to use less ultrasonic output than clinical fetal Dopplers in health care settings. As a result, it may be longer than 14 weeks before you can detect the heartbeat at home. Also, because baby moves around, the heartbeat may be hard to locate from time to time. For this reason, the AngelSounds Fetal Doppler should be used under supervision by your health care provider.
